Power-F1 & Speed-08

Two sheets from QuanShiBao, the brand developed by Fang Bo, listed together: the F1 is a black 40° sheet and the 08 a red 37° sheet, both 2.1 mm. Take one of each and you have a matched pair for a single blade — black on one side, red on the other.

Neither is a traditional Chinese rubber. QuanShiBao uses a far more elastic sponge with real catapult, which makes them hybrids: more speed than a conventional Chinese sheet, and power that is much easier to get at.

QuanShiBao prints its own ratings on each pack. Despite the names, the softer 08 scores higher than the F1 for spin and control, and the two are level on speed and power — so on the pack’s own ratings the 08 is the more forgiving sheet, and the F1 the firmer one.

It suits you if you want Chinese-style spin with speed and power that come more easily than on a traditional Chinese sheet — F1 on the forehand, 08 on the backhand is the natural split.

It does not suit you if you want the heavy, low arc of a traditional tacky sheet. The Hurricane 3 Neo Commercial is the classic, the Hurricane 3 Neo Provincial is its higher grade, and the Loki Rxton 9 covers the same ground for less.

Two thin coats on the sponge, one on the blade. Let every coat dry completely clear before the next — a milky surface means it is not ready, and trapped moisture is a common cause of bubbles.

• Use a water-based glue. DHS No. 15 Glue is the one we stock.
• Roll from the centre outwards to push air to the edges.
• Trim with a sharp blade along the edge of the wood, or with sharp scissors — curved ones make the rounded edge easiest.
• Between sessions, use the protective film or another topsheet cover, so dust stays off and the tack lasts longer.

Many Chinese sheets are made with boosting in mind: a thin coat of booster tensions the topsheet and adds speed and throw, and the sponge softens slightly.

One thin coat is enough for most players. Leave the sheet weighted flat for 12 to 24 hours so it expands evenly, then glue and mount as normal. More coats increase the effect and shorten how long the sheet lasts.

Boosting is irreversible, so it is worth playing the sheet as it comes for a few sessions first, to have a baseline to judge against.
